Managing Stallions with Low Fertility

 

Stallions with low fertility receive special management in order to maximize pregnancy rates. The Breeding Soundness Exam should include evaluation of behavior (libido), palpation, and ultrasound of external and internal genitalia, semen evaluation (morphology, motility, test cool) semen cultures and hormonal assays. Stallions with a history of poor semen quality will undergo several semen evaluations, using different extenders and techniques to process the semen in order to improve quality.
